Ship & Safety Information

The Scallywags is a custom designed wooden vessel that was built in Maryland in 2013 and took 6 months to complete. After it’s construction it was sailed on the Atlantic Ocean, through the St. Lawerence Seaway, to the Great Lakes, to its home port of Erie where it has operated ever since.

The ship is 54′ in length at the water line, 62′ overall, with a 20′ beam and 4′ draft and is powered by Twin Volvo Diesels, each 230 HP.

The vessel was built to U.S. Coast Guard requirements and is certified to carry 75 passengers. It is equipped with the latest lifesaving and navigational equipment. Our Captains and Deckhands are all U.S. Coast Guard licensed and certified.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to check-in before boarding?

Yes

Please check-in at our ticket booth prior to boarding.

If you purchase your ticket online you must still pick up your boarding ticket from the booth. Tickets may also be purchased at the booth.

We recommend checking-in 30 minutes prior to your cruise time. We will begin boarding approximately 10-15 minutes before scheduled cruise time.

Where should I park?

Public parking is available all along State St. and Dobbins Landing. Some of it is free, some of it is meter parking. There is also a parking garage on West Bay Rd. across the street from where our ship docks.

What is your cancellation policy?

Reservations on regularly scheduled cruises may be canceled, altered or rescheduled with a 48 hours advanced notice of cruise date. No refunds will be given, or reservations rescheduled for requests made less than 48 hours advance notice of cruise date.

Is there food and drink available on board?

Yes

We have a cash bar on board including snacks, water, soda, and alcoholic beverages.

Are there restrooms on board?

Yes

There is one unisex restroom on board.

What should I bring with me?

We operate rain or shine, hot or cold. Please plan to dress according to the weather.

Here is what we recommend for varying weather conditions:

Nice/Hot Weather:

  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Hat
  • Towel

Cold/Rainy Weather:

  • Coat and/or Hoodie
  • Raincoat or Poncho
Do you allow pets?

Pets and animals are not permitted on board unless they are a certified ADA service animal.

Will I get wet?

Pirate Adventure Show:

There are water-related activities during our family fun cruises. Those wanting to participate in these activities will get wet. We recommend bringing a towel (and possibly a change of clothes) for anyone looking to fully engage in the water-related activities.

Those not wanting to participate may head to the water-free zone on the upper-deck of the ship.

Wobbly Pirate Cruise:

We do not have any water related activities during our happy hour cruises, so most likely not. However, there is always a risk of getting a little wet when you’re on the open sea.

What happens if it rains?

We operate rain or shine. Please plan to dress according to the weather, including coats, hoodies, rain jackets or ponchos. However, in case of severe weather conditions such as lightening or high winds, it is at the Captain’s discretion to cancel the cruise.

If canceled, passengers will be notified by phone prior to the cruise and offered to reschedule their reservation or be issued a refund.

If a cruise is interrupted by unsafe weather conditions and the ship has to return to dock early, refunds will be issued depending on the length of your voyage.

Will I get seasick?

Most likely not due to the construction of the Scallywags. It is a very stable vessel with 360° views of the horizon and generally cruises around 6 knots (approximately 5 mph).

However, if you have a tendency towards motion or sea sickness, please take preventative measures beforehand.

Should I tip the crew?

Gratuities are accepted and greatly appreciated but not mandatory.
